We’re excited to share Hui Aloha’s latest ‘happenings’ with you. We’ve been striving to build community, forge connections, nurture healing, and spread hope. Learning from the leadership of Aunty Twinkle Borge and the Pu'uhonua o Wai‘anae ‘ohana has been a privilege. They lead with aloha and inspire us by showing the power of community.
We’ve been busy with ‘friendraising’ and fundraising to support the Pu‘uhonua o Wai‘anae’s Ma Uka community. The encouragement shared in many beautiful different forms by so many has led to wonderful things:
In less than two years we’ve realized an ambitious dream: Purchasing 20 acres for a permanent village home.
Houseless and housed communities are working together to mālama our island places, to serve and support the neediest among us, and to make a positive difference for others.
From the Bathroom Brigades crew, meeting an urgent public health crisis, to Ka Po‘e o Kaka‘ako working hard to mālama parks and grounds, and to the mask makers who refuse to let houseless community members be ignored in a time of overwhelming need, we have been awed by all the ways communities have stepped up for each other.
